Ms. Nitika Khandelwal (IAS) is a dedicated and impactful officer of the 2015 batch, Uttarakhand cadre. Simplicity, sensitivity, and diligence are clearly evident in her work style. Since June 2025, she has been serving as the District Magistrate of Tehri Garhwal and the Vice Chairperson of the Tehri Development Authority, where she is actively implementing local development initiatives and administrative decisions on the ground.

Her administrative journey has encompassed several significant responsibilities. She worked on technological initiatives and e-governance projects as the Director of the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA); spearheaded urban infrastructure and planning efforts as the Director of Urban Development; and focused on the implementation of rural schemes and community development policies as the Additional Secretary for Rural Development. These roles demonstrate her ability to understand and manage every stage of the process, from policy formulation to ground-level implementation.
Academically, Nitika’s focus has been on social and human-centric disciplines. She completed her B.A. (Hons) in Sociology (2008) at Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi, gaining a strong foundation in understanding societal structures and behavior. She subsequently earned an M.A. in Human Resource Management (2010) from Jamia Millia Islamia, acquiring practical knowledge of people management, institutional processes, and human resources—skills that have proven invaluable in managing teams and systems within the administration.

Her personal journey and commitment are also truly inspiring. Born on July 22, 1987, in Rudrapur, Nitika cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2014, securing an All India Rank (AIR) of 897. Despite facing visual impairment, she undertook corporate HR internships at major organizations like Adobe Systems and NTPC. These experiences provided her with professional insight, discipline, and an understanding of diverse work cultures—expertise she has since dedicated to the field of public administration. In simple terms, Nitika Khandelwal possesses not only administrative skills but also empathy, determination, and practical insight. Her education shaped her thinking and understanding of policy, her internships honed her professional competence, and her administrative roles gave her the opportunity to formulate and implement policies that serve the public—making her a powerful role model for young people preparing for the civil services.
